Carolina Herrera (born Maria Carolina Josefina Pacanins y Nino on January 8, 1939 in Caracas, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan-American fashion designer who has become known for her dramatic, but elegant, style. She appeared on the International Best Dressed list for the first time in 1972, and began her own clothing line, which she debuted on the runway in 1980. Carolina’s company has been located in New York City since 1980, and has continuously gotten recognition from the biggest publications. As of 2012, her line is carried in 104 countries.

Carolina married Guillermo Behrens Tello when she was just 18 years old. Together, they had two daughters, Mercedes and Ana Luisa, however, the couple divorced in 1964. Carolina moved on to marry Reinaldo Herrera Guevara, and they had two daughters, Carolina Adriana and Patricia Cristina. She also has six grandchildren.
